Political System of the European Union
Course Description
Goals
At the end of the semester the student must be able of:
- Identify the dominant theoretical approaches to the European integration process
- Describe the evolution of the European integration process
- Identify the chief institutions and political actors of the EU
- Understand the policy-making and the decision-making process
- Identify the main EU policies
Assess the implications of the EU’s developments for the domestic politics and for democracy

1. Theories of European integration and theories of EU governance
2. Historical evolution of the European integration process
3. European institutions and political actors in the EU
4. Policies and policy-making in the EU
5. Assessing consequences: Europeanization; democracy and legitimacy in the EU
